City of Chicago Support

The following are free mental health resources available to all Chicago residents:

For after hours support, contact Crisis Text Line which serves anyone, in any type of crisis, 24-hours a day. Instructions: Text HELLO to: 741741 to access a trained crisis counselor.

The Food Depository’s benefits outreach team is available by phone to help Chicagoans apply for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Medicaid benefits. SNAP benefits can be used to purchase groceries from local stores. Eligibility is determined by household income. Those affected by recent COVID-19 related job losses may qualify. For benefits outreach assistance, call 773-843-5416 Monday-Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. or apply directly with the Illinois Department of Human Services.

The Illinois Domestic Violence Hotline is available 24/7 to provide crisis intervention, information, and referrals for survivors of domestic violence. Call or text 877-863-6338 for confidential help and information.

Evictions/Foreclosures: All evictions/foreclosures have been suspended for at least 30 days in Cook County. This means that if you are unable to pay your rent, you cannot be evicted.

The City of Chicago is temporarily suspending debt collection, ticketing, and towing practices to provide debt relief in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) issued an emergency order requiring a moratorium on disconnections for non-payment and suspension of late fees until May 1, 2020, or until the end of the Governor's COVID-19 state of emergency if it goes beyond May 1.
